A History of Excellence on the Fleld

Whether it's in the SCSBOA, WBA or BOA competition circuits, the Lancer Marching Band is well known for cutting-edge field shows that exhibits the best qualities of musicality, general effect and individual presentation. The amount of effort and energy poured into each year's show is a key ingredient. The individual efforts of all instrumentalists and color guard members, the dedicated staff and our band director build upon each other from week to week, from later summer until Thanksgiving, providing us all with wonderful experiences.

The Lancers have performed many menorable field shows over the years, and each year holds special memories. For each of us, I'm sure these memories are different. Some of us will remember a particular year, one that was special. Maybe you were a freshman, completely overwhelmed by the experience. You never really realized how hard it could be to play your part, one that took several weeks to memorize, while you march through the intricate mazes of a complex drill. You were amazed when it all came together, and you could tell when you were marching in step. As a freshman color guard member, you were trying to learn how to peform a complex set of maneuvers with your arsenal of flags, rifles and sabers and still keep smiling. That was much harder than you throught to do as well. Somehow, you got it together, and made it through the season.

Then, all of the sudden, you found that you were a senior. Where did the time go. Marching and doing your part, whether tossing a weapon high into the air or playing a complex run, became relatively easy. Certainly you still had to practice, but you understood the process, what a season was like, and it would be over before you knew it. So, that year was special, regardless of the show itself.

Fof boosters like me, we live through our children's experiences. I will neve forget my eldest son's senior year, the "Chess" year. That was the year the band finally made it. We chased ourselves and Etiwanda from the very beginning of the fall, coming within two-tenths of a point during the last regular competition at Los Altos. Then, at the SCSBOA Tournament of Champions
